Why 2ndMetal exists

Every metal yard has a rack nobody talks about.

The off-cuts. The drops. The half-plate left over when the job only needed the other half. Perfectly good material — certified, paid for, traceable — sitting in the sun until someone finally sells it by the kilo. As scrap.

Rehan has spent his career in that world, running one of the region's largest stainless steel and metal fabrication operations. The rack always bothered him. Not because the pieces were worthless — because they weren't. Somewhere across town, a workshop was buying a full sheet for a half-sheet job and waiting weeks for delivery, while the exact piece they needed sat twenty minutes away. The material existed. The buyer existed. They just couldn't find each other.

Mark comes from the other side entirely — technology and marketing, building AI-powered products. The two of us have been friends for a very long time, and for years we kept saying the same thing: we should build something together. We circled a dozen ideas. Nothing stuck.

Then Mark visited the factory.

He walked the yard taking photos of plate off-cuts like a tourist, and noticed something Rehan's team does without thinking: every piece has its grade and heat number chalked on it by hand. SA516 Gr.70. Heat number. Plate number. Full mill traceability — written in chalk, on material headed for the scrap dealer.

“Someone, somewhere, needs this exact piece. They just don't know it exists.”

— Rehan

That was the whole business in one sentence. An information problem wearing a metal costume. Rehan knew the material, the yards, and what buyers actually worry about — certificates, availability, delivery. Mark knew how to build the technology to connect them. Days later there was a spec. Weeks later, a platform.

2ndMetal answers one question: before you buy a full sheet, plate, pipe or bar — did you check whether your piece already exists?

Now you can.

Good metal. Second opportunity.
