GRADE GUIDE · CU-DHP

Cu-DHP deoxidised copper off-cuts

Cu-DHP (CW024A / C12200) is phosphorus-deoxidised copper — the grade made for joining. With its oxygen removed, it welds and brazes without embrittlement, which is why every plumbing tube, air-conditioning line and fabricated copper vessel is DHP rather than electrical-grade ETP.

Also listed as: CW024A · C12200 · SF-Cu (old DIN) · Cu-DHP 99.9

The P in DHP is a trace of phosphorus left from deoxidation; it sacrifices a few points of conductivity (irrelevant for non-electrical work) and buys complete freedom from hydrogen embrittlement at the torch. In a region that runs on air conditioning, DHP is everywhere: ACR tube, refrigeration headers, water services, solar-thermal coils, and any copper part that meets a brazing rod.

Off-cuts land here as tube lengths, sheet and plate from mechanical contractors. Tube listings carry OD and wall — check them against your fitting standard — while sheet suits flashing, heat spreaders and workshop fabrication. As with all copper, metal value is high and listed prices ride a short validity window.

Common questions

What is the difference between Cu-DHP and Cu-ETP?

Oxygen. ETP keeps it and maximises conductivity for electrical work; DHP removes it with phosphorus so the metal can be welded and brazed safely. Pick by process: torch work means DHP.

Can DHP copper be used for electrical parts?

It conducts well — around 85–98% IACS depending on temper — but where conductivity is the specification, ETP is the certified answer. DHP's territory is fluid and fabrication duty.

What brazing alloys suit DHP tube?

Copper-phosphorus rods (BCuP) join DHP to itself without flux — the standard ACR practice. Silver-bearing alloys add ductility for vibration service; either way, no embrittlement risk with this grade.
