Alloy steel off-cuts

Alloy steels are the engineering grades — 4140, EN19, EN24 and their equivalents — machined into shafts, gears, pins and tooling. Workshops rarely need a full bar; the short lengths and plate off-cuts listed here match how this material is actually used.

Stock turns over piece by piece — what's listed is what exists. Post the spec you need and we match it against incoming material; you're alerted the moment something lands.

4140 (42CrMo4 in European naming) and EN19 are near-equivalents and cover most shaft and stud work; EN24 steps up where toughness matters. These grades respond to heat treatment, which is the point: a machine shop turns a blank, then hardens and tempers to the duty.

Condition matters when you buy: quenched-and-tempered bar machines differently from annealed. Listings state the declared condition where the seller provided it, and pieces with a mill certificate carry the MTC badge so you can match the chemistry to your spec before ordering.

Common questions

Are 4140 and EN19 the same material?

Close enough that they interchange in most workshop use — both are chromium-molybdenum medium-carbon steels with similar heat-treat response. Check the certificate when the drawing calls a specific spec.

What condition are the bars supplied in?

Whatever the seller declared — usually quenched and tempered, sometimes annealed. The condition is on the listing, and the mill certificate confirms it where one exists.

Can I buy a short length for a single job?

That is exactly what this stock is for. Off-cut lengths are listed piece by piece with the actual dimensions, so a 400 mm job doesn't require a 6-metre bar.
