GRADE GUIDE · A333
A333 is the pipe specification for low-temperature service: every heat is Charpy impact-tested cold, with Grade 6 — the common one — proven at −45 °C. It is the line pipe of LPG, refrigeration, and cold process systems where ordinary carbon pipe would turn brittle.

Carbon steel loses toughness as it cools; below its transition temperature a pressure line can fracture instead of leaking. A333 exists to push that boundary down and prove it by test — the mill certificate for each heat carries the impact values. Grade 6 covers the −45 °C band that takes in LPG storage, ammonia refrigeration and most cold-service piping in the region; Grade 3 extends to −100 °C where specified.
Visually the pipe is indistinguishable from A106, which is exactly why the certificate matters: an A333 off-cut without its MTC is just carbon pipe. Listings here show the certification badge, and the document is released to you once the order is confirmed.
A106 carries no low-temperature impact guarantee — below roughly −29 °C the piping codes require impact-tested material, which is precisely what A333 certifies. The cost difference is small against the risk of brittle fracture.
The low-temperature companions: A420 WPL6 butt-weld fittings and A350 LF2 forged flanges, keeping the whole joint impact-tested to the same temperature.
Where the seller supplied one, the listing carries an MTC badge and the certificate is released after your order is confirmed. For low-temperature service, only buy badged pieces.
